A re-analysis of 843 studies across 20 health conditions tied alcohol to higher risk for ten cancers at any level, while its links to heart and metabolic disease were mixed. These were observational studies, so associations, not proof.

Across 462,917 UK Biobank adults tracked for about 14 years, those who felt lonely had a higher risk of degenerative heart valve disease. Living alone or being socially isolated did not carry the same risk.

A randomized crossover trial in 87 healthy adults found daily sauerkraut did little for inflammation or the gut barrier over four weeks. The one signal, a small drop in blood pressure, showed up even when the bacteria were dead.
